Kurt Siebenhaar

Kurt Siebenhaar (born December 2, 1928 , † September 12, 2009 in Keltern ) was a German basketball coach and player. He was a German national player and in 1968 and 1969 national coach of the German national team .

career

Siebenhaar played basketball with the Turnerbund Heidelberg and won the German championship several times with the club in the late 1940s and early 1950s. With the German national team he took part in the European Championships in 1951, 1953 and 1955. He later played for USC Heidelberg , with which he became German champions in 1957 and 1958. In 1959 he led the USC as a coach to the DM title, in the season 59/60 he was active again as a player and again won the German championship title. His last championship followed in 1961.

For his sporting successes he was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf on April 15, 1951.

In 1965 he became the successor of Theodor Schober again as USC coach and led the team straight to the German championship title in 1966. In February 1968 he left the coaching post in Heidelberg and became the regional coach of the Baden-Württemberg Association. This made him the first national coach for a German regional association. In 1968 and 1969 Siebenhaar was also the national coach of the German men's national team, later coached the B national team and from 1964 to 1972 junior national teams.

In the 1950s Siebenhaar worked on the development of a viewing concept for the German Basketball Association .

In 1985 Siebenhaar sat at the European Championships in Germany as technical director in the EM organizing committee.

Siebenhaar remained a full-time state trainer for Baden-Württemberg until his retirement in 1994 and worked in numerous basketball functionaries in the course of his life, including referees, teaching and coaching. In 2007 he was recognized by the Baden-Württemberg basketball association for his many years of voluntary work.

A coaching award from the Baden-Württemberg basketball association and the Baden-Württemberg championship in the U12 age group ("Kurt Siebenhaar Cup") are named after Kurt Siebenhaar.
