Kurt Wilhelm (rabbi)

Kurt Wilhelm (born May 9, 1900 in Magdeburg ; died May 19, 1965 in Stockholm ) was a German Grand Rabbi and specialized in research into the history of the science of Judaism .

Life

Kurt Wilhelm, who is also a member of the Jung-Jewish migrant Federal was studied from 1919 to 1923 at the Jewish Theological Seminary in Breslau and was 1923 in Würzburg Dr. phil. PhD. In 1925 he studied at the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York , where he received his rabbi diploma .

He lived and worked as a liberal rabbi in Braunschweig (1925–1929) and Dortmund (1929–1933) and emigrated to Palestine in 1933 (founded in Jerusalem in 1936 and rabbi of the liberal community Emet ve-Emunah until 1948 ).

From 1948 to 1965 he was chief rabbi in Sweden (Stockholm, also lecturer at the University of Stockholm ), and since 1959 also honorary professor for the science of Judaism at the University of Frankfurt am Main .

Kurt Wilhelm was married to Ilka Wilhelm, who survived him.
