Count Kurt August Ferdinand Christoph von Degenfeld-Schonburg (born January 1, 1838 in Eybach , Oberamt Geislingen, † May 11, 1888 in Stuttgart ) was a member of the Württemberg state parliament and fossil collector.

Descent and origin

Kurt von Degenfeld-Schonburg was born as the son of Count Christoph Martin Maximilian Friedrich von Degenfeld-Schonburg (1797–1866) and his second wife Auguste von Normann-Ehrenfels (1815–1897). In 1869 he married Gabriele Freiin von Riese-Stallburg (1847–1930), with her he had four children.

He comes from the noble family of the Counts of Degenfeld-Schonburg . His great-great-grandfather, the Prussian Minister of War Christoph Martin II von Degenfeld (1689–1762), was the nephew of Marie Luise von Degenfeld (1634–1677), Raugräfin and morganatic wife of the Palatinate Elector Karl I. Ludwig . Friedrich Graf von Mandelsloh was his uncle .

After attending grammar school in Stuttgart, he studied at the Agricultural Academy in Hohenheim . He then worked in the management of the family property. In addition, Kurt von Degenfeld-Schonburg was an enthusiastic nature lover, natural scientist and geologist. He was one of the first members of the so-called Steigenclub , an association of Swabian geologists. From 1859 he was a member of the Association for Patriotic Natural History in Württemberg . In 1871 he and his descendants were accepted into the noble society Zum Frauenstein in Frankfurt. Kurt von Degenfeld-Schonburg was an honorary knight of the Order of St. John. On August 23, 1884 ( registration number 2480 ) he was elected a member of the Leopoldina .

From 1876 to 1882 he was a representative of the knighthood of the Jagstkreis in the Württemberg Chamber of Deputies .
