Custody in Bad Wimpfen

The custody in Bad Wimpfen in the Heilbronn district in Baden-Württemberg is one of the former property of the Wimpfen monastery . The building (Lindenplatz 4) on the market square of the valley town was once the seat of the custodian . It stands today as a cultural monument under monument protection .

history

The building was built in 1763 at the same time as the neighboring deanery . The dean at that time was a Freiherr Mohr von Waldt. The custodian was Christoph Nebel (1690–1769), who was also dean of St. Stephan in Mainz and who in 1760 also carried out the renovation of the collegiate church of St. Peter . Nebel is buried in Mainz, but an epitaph for him was also erected in the collegiate church of St. Peter.

The custody came in 1803 with the entire monastery property to the Landgraviate of Hessen-Darmstadt and in 1806 to the Grand Duchy of Hesse and was sold together with other monastery buildings in 1808 to cover the maintenance costs of the collegiate church. Aaron Hirsch, a merchant Jew from Wimpfen, bought the building for 1,500 guilders. Around 1819 the Ludwigshall salt works acquired the building as a residential building for senior servants.

description

The custody is an octagonal two-story solid building with a mansard roof . Due to the basic architectural shape with sloping corners , the building has only three axes towards the market square. The central axis forms a rectangular portal framed by side pilasters, above it a large basket-arch window for the staircase and above it a decorative gable. The facade of the building is also structured by sandstone window frames, surrounding cornices and corner pilasters.

The custody did not originally have any outbuildings, only a courtyard and a kitchen garden. The plastered half-timbered barn with a half-hipped roof to the west of it today is from the 19th century.
