Květoslav Spurný

Květoslav Rudolph Spurný (born May 16, 1923 in Rousínov , † November 3, 1999 in Schmallenberg ) was a Czechoslovak aerosol researcher .

Life

Květoslav Spurný studied chemistry and physics at the Charles University in Prague and received his diploma in 1947. After receiving his doctorate in chemistry in 1950, he initially worked at the Institute for Industrial Hygiene in Prague. From 1957 to 1972 he was department head for aerosol research at the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences . As a political refugee, Spurný moved to the Federal Republic of Germany in 1972, where he was employed by the Fraunhofer Institute for Environmental Chemistry and Ecotoxicology in Schmallenberg-Grafschaft until he reached retirement age in 1988 . During this time he was among other things President of the Society for Aerosol Research . As a retiree, he devoted himself to the writing and editing of specialist books and the history of aerosol research. Květoslav Spurný was hit by a car on November 3, 1999 near his home while crossing a country road. He died later at the accident site.

Květoslav Spurný is the author of over 200 magazine publications and the author or editor of five specialist books. A VDI guideline on the scanning electron microscope measurement of asbestos fibers is based on his findings. In October 1989 he was the first non-American scientist to receive the Sinclair Award from the American Association for Aerosol Research.
