Dieter Hochrainer

Dieter Hochrainer (* before 1940 in Vienna ) is an Austrian physicist . His main research areas are aerosol physics and biophysics .

Life

After finishing school, Hochrainer studied physics in Vienna. Along with Helmuth Horvath and Axel Berner, he was one of Othmar Preining's first doctoral students and working group members . After receiving his doctorate, he worked at the Institute for Atmospheric Research in Colorado (USA). In 1961 he moved to Germany to the Fraunhofer Institute for Molecular Biology and Applied Ecology in Grafschaft in the Sauerland region . Hochrainer had worked at Boehringer Ingelheim since 1990 until he took early retirement in 2002. He then worked as a consultant for the company until 2012. Before and after this time, Hochrainer applied for several patents and was editor-in-chief of the Journal of Aerosol Science . He was also Secretary General of the Society for Aerosol Research from 1981 to 1982 . The father of three children lives with his wife from Schmallenberg in Oberkirchen in the Hochsauerland district .

Awards

  • 1982: Joseph von Fraunhofer Prize (shared with Hans Peter König, Günter Oberdörster, Shinji Takenaka, all at the Fraunhofer Institute for Toxicology and Aerosol Research), award ceremony in Munich for her research on the carcinogenicity of cadmium aerosols
  • 1990: Badge of honor from the Association of German Engineers for his many years of committed work as chairman in the main committee for measurement technology
  • 2014: Charles G. Thiel Prize (donated by Virginia Commonwealth University ), award ceremony in Fajardo / Puerto Rico , for his achievements in research and development for the inhalation of drugs
