Kym Mazelle

Kym Mazelle (actually Kimberley Grigsby ; * 1960 in Gary , Indiana ) is an American soul , R&B and pop singer and songwriter . Her biggest chart hit was the 1989 single Wait! in duet with Robert Howard, the lead singer of the band The Blow Monkeys .

biography

As a child, Mazelle lived in the same area as The Jacksons . They started early with the singing and interpreting self-penned songs. By the mid-1980s she was already a successful gospel singer .

After moving to Chicago , she gained a foothold in the local house music scene and was hired by Marshall Jefferson as a singer on various house tracks. Syncopate Records discovered her while performing live in London and signed her first recording deal . The 1988 single Useless (I Don't Need You Now) , for which she worked again with Jefferson, made it into the UK charts and was the singer's first chart success. Together with Dr. Robert aka Robert Howard from The Blow Monkeys and the single Wait! it reached seventh place in the UK in January 1989, and 26th in Germany two months later .

In the following years Mazelle released various singles on various labels , of which twelve more climbed into the English charts by the year 2000. Among them were successful collaborations with Jocelyn Brown , Rapination and Soul II Soul . Mazelle recorded the song Searching for the Golden Eye with Motif 8 aka Steve Rodway , which is part of the soundtrack for James Bond 007 - Goldeneye . The 1997 hit Young Hearts Run Free was the theme song for William Shakespeare's drama Romeo + Juliet .

In 2004 Kym Mazelle returned with the album The Pleasure Is All Mine , for which she collaborated with Italian DJs and producers Roberto Intrallazzi and Luca Provera. In 2010 the mini album Destiny followed with seven mostly self-written songs.
