The Art of Loving is a French episode film directed by Emmanuel Mouret in 2011 .

action

The film consists of ten segments, which are briefly introduced by a narrator.

1. A composer who has only a short time to live hopes one day to hear the melody that will tell him that he has just fallen in love with a woman. He had already heard the beginnings of melodies twice, but had never met true love before. He implements his ideas of this melody in his own compositions, which is why the women are at his feet. One day, shortly before his death, he hears a melody but sees no person. He dies before he can find out who he fell in love with at that moment.

2. Zoé learns from her good friend Isabelle that she has not had sex for a year. Isabelle dreams that Zoé would allow her to sleep out of friendship with her friend Jeremie and she consented. In fact, a little later, Zoé offers her boyfriend, but Isabelle refuses.

3. Out of boredom, Achille is on the phone with some friends who refuse to meet when his new neighbor rings the doorbell. She has locked herself out and calls him for the locksmith. Only lightly dressed, she confesses to Achille that she would like to go on an adventure with a man. When he kisses her, she backs away and leaves, believing he only did it because of her story about an adventure, not out of affection.

4. Amélie learns from her best friend Boris that he finds her body desirable and therefore cannot really be with any other woman because he always thinks that the love life with her is better. Amélie refuses his request to sleep with him.

5. Achille meets his neighbor again, but she refuses him again and talks the meeting to death out of uncertainty. He is patient.

6. Emmanuelle wants to leave her husband Paul after many years of marriage because she has been drawn to other men for some time. She has already sought treatment for this, but can no longer bear the feeling of suppressing her own desires. Paul allows her to give in to her desires, and Emmanuelle is now relaxed about men. Nevertheless, she only sleeps with Paul, whose acceptance of her being has rekindled their love life together.

7. Achille and the neighbor meet again. They kiss, but the neighbor leaves after a short time.

8. William and Vanessa were first friends and eventually became a couple. They want to have a relationship without repression, so one day Vanessa admits to William that she will shortly be sleeping with her colleague Louis, who will be going abroad shortly afterwards. William initially agrees, but changes his mind over the next few days out of jealousy. The meeting was supposed to take place on Friday, but Vanessa decides to sleep with Louis on Thursday. At their meeting, Louis confesses to her that he doesn't want to travel because he has fallen in love with her and wants to stay with her. Vanessa breaks off the rendezvous immediately, but hides it from William. He now agrees to the meeting and claims to have a date himself on Friday. Both go out that day, spend the evening alone in a café and claim back home that they have had a new experience.

9. Achille invites the neighbor over. He seduces them with words; When she wants to leave and tells him that he would hold her back passionately if he really loved her, he does just that.

10. Amélie and Boris meet again, and Amélie learns that Boris has broken up with his girlfriend. Because she thinks it's exciting that he desires her, she makes a deal with him: They both want to meet in a dark hotel room, not speak a word and sleep together. So she hopes to break down her inhibitions. Boris agrees, but Amélie fails to turn her plan into reality. One day she meets Isabelle, who is still single. She persuades her to take her part in the hotel. Boris does not notice the change of women and meets a second time with "Amélie" under the conditions mentioned. Then he is sure that he loves her, but Amélie is not ready to leave her boyfriend for him. She agrees to continue to meet him at the hotel, but Isabelle always goes there for her. Amélie introduces Isabelle and Boris to each other, but they find each other uninteresting. Only when the fire alarm goes off in the hotel during a lunchtime does Boris recognize who he has slept with all these times. The friendship with Amélie falls apart. One day Boris meets Isabelle again at their friend Zoé's birthday party. A thunderstorm comes down and the lights go out for a short time. In this moment of darkness Boris and Isabelle find together again and kiss and pull away from the party.
