László Kerekes

László Kerekes (born July 23, 1968 in Ghelința ) is a Romanian Roman Catholic clergyman and auxiliary bishop in Alba Iulia .

Life

László Kerekes belongs to the Hungarian minority in Romania. He attended the boys' college in Alba Iulia from 1984 to 1986 and then did his military service until 1987. From 1987 to 1990 he studied at the Roman Catholic Theological Institute in Alba Iulia and then continued his studies until 1992 at the Theological Academy and the Central Seminary in Budapest . The sacrament of Holy Orders for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Alba Iulia received his Auxiliary Bishop György Jakubinyi on May 16, 1993 in his home parish.

From 1992 to 1994 he studied canon law at Saint Paul University in Ottawa and obtained his licentiate . During this time he also worked in the pastoral care of Hungarian-speaking believers. After returning home, he took on various pastoral tasks, was professor of canon law and homiletics at the diocesan seminary of Alba Iulia and employee of the ecclesiastical marriage court. From 2000 to 2004 he studied again at Saint Paul University and received his doctorate in canon law . Since 2004 he has been pastor in Târgu Secuiesc . He was also a member of the priestly council and the ecclesiastical court of the archdiocese.

Pope Francis appointed him titular bishop of Tharros and auxiliary bishop in Alba Iulia on May 26, 2020 . The Archbishop of Alba Iulia, Gergely Kovacs , gave him on 29 August of the same year in the Basilica of Our Lady of Şumuleu Ciuc the episcopal ordination . Co- consecrators were his predecessors György Jakubinyi and József Tamás , auxiliary bishop emeritus in Alba Iulia.
