László Vidovszky

László Vidovszky (*  25. February 1944 in Békéscsaba , County Békés , Hungary ) is a Hungarian composer of contemporary music .

Life

László Vidovszky started playing the piano at the age of five. In 1959 he began studying composition, first at the Szegedin Conservatory with Géza Szatmári , then from 1962 to 1967 at the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Budapest with Ferenc Farkas . Funded by a six-month UNESCO scholarship, he continued his studies in Paris in 1970 and attended the composition classes of Olivier Messiaen at the Paris Conservatory and courses of the Groupe de recherches musicales of the French radio .

Encouraged by the Hungarian conductor and music theorist Albert Simon , László Vidovszky founded, together with Péter Eötvös , Zoltán Kocsis , László Sáry and Zoltán Jeney, the Új Zenei Stúdió (“Studio for New Music”) in Budapest, which soon became an internationally renowned working group for composers Musician.

Vidovszky has been teaching continuously since 1972, first at the Teachers' College of the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Budapest, then from 1984 at the University of Pécs . Since 1999 he has also been dean of the newly founded Faculty of Fine and Performing Arts at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music.
