The Läderach (Switzerland) AG (brand: Läderach Chocolatier Suisse ) is an in Ennenda (municipality Glarus ) in Canton Glarus -based company that since 1962 chocolates and candies manufactured. The company was founded in Glarus in 1962 by Rudolf Läderach (1929–2013) after his father Rudolf Läderach senior had been running a bakery in Netstal (today the municipality of Glarus) since 1926 .

history

In 1970 Rudolf Läderach invented and patented the "process for the production of thin-walled truffle hollow balls", which simplified and improved truffle production.

In 1981 Läderach expanded to Germany and also exported overseas. In 1994 Rudolf Läderach handed over the operational management of his company to his second son, Jürg Läderach, who is now the Chairman of the Board of Directors .

In 2004 Läderach bought Merkur Confiserien AG in Switzerland and introduced the company's own FrischSchoggi . By the end of 2014, Läderach had converted all Merkur locations into its own “Läderach Chocolaterien”.

With Johannes and Elias Läderach, the third generation joined the company in 2011.

Since September 2012, Läderach has been producing the chocolate mass in its own production facility in Bilten (municipality of Glarus Nord). The cocoa beans are procured from farmers and cooperatives in Ghana and South America .

In 2012 Läderach was one of the winners of the SVC Entrepreneurship Award for Eastern Switzerland.

In 2018 the eldest son, Johannes Läderach, took over the company management from his father Jürg. Elias Läderach joined the management team and also received the title of World Chocolate Master 2018 in the same year.

Läderach produces exclusively in Switzerland; the products are sold in around 60 of its own chocolateries with sales outlets in Switzerland and Germany, as well as through sales partners in the Middle East and Asia .

criticism

Jürg Läderach, together with his son Johannes, has been involved for many years in the Christianity for Today association, which has been heavily criticized for its radical views (rejection of same-sex partnerships, opponents of abortion). Other senior executives at Läderach are high-ranking members of the CFT association. In addition, Jürg and Johannes Läderach are co-organizers of the “March for the Labe”, a demonstration against the right to abortion. Jürg Läderach has also been fighting against homosexuals and pornography for years. Swiss and German LGBT groups are calling for a boycott of Läderach products.

Swiss abruptly ended its collaboration with Läderach in November 2019.
