Léon Frédéric
Léon Frédéric (born August 26, 1856 in Brussels , † January 27, 1940 in Schaarbeek ) was a Belgian painter of symbolism .
biography
As the son of a wealthy jeweler, Frédéric enrolled in the art academy in his hometown in 1874 . He became a student of Jean-François Portaels '. Through him he received a strong influence on Flemish Baroque painting . Italian influences from this period can also be seen in his works. Frédéric was in Italy from 1876 to 1878. He lived mainly in the cities of Rome , Florence , Naples and Venice and met the Belgian sculptor Julien Dillens in Italy , who also had a decisive influence on Frédéric's later works.
