Löbelstein is an eastern part of the Upper Franconian town of Coburg , which was united with Seidmannsdorf in 1869 .

geography

The village borders the Coburg city center in the east and is located on a southern slope, below the 450 meter high Brandenstein plain.

history

Löbelstein was originally not a place name, but a field name . The name was first mentioned in 1514 in the hereditary book of the Sonnefeld monastery . A date of the establishment of the place is not known. Löbelstein gradually developed as a settlement on the land of the Seidmannsdorf community. Like Seidmannsdorf it belonged to the monastery and later to the office of Sonnefeld . The first houses were in the 17th century. After the death of Duke Albrecht in 1699, Löbelstein came to Sachsen-Hildburghausen in 1705 as part of the Sonnefeld office . In 1826 the office of Sonnefeld came back to Saxony-Coburg in accordance with the Hildburghausen partition agreement . In 1837 Löbelstein was reclassified from the Sonnefeld office to the Coburg office as part of a regional reform. Due to the production of bricks , the popular name of the place was brick huts in the 19th century.

On January 22nd, 1869, the fortune-free Löbelstein was forcibly incorporated into Seidmannsdorf, to whose Evangelical-Lutheran parish it had belonged for centuries.

In 1792 Löbelstein had eight fireplaces. In 1837 41 people lived in the village. In 1871, Löbelstein comprised 19 residential buildings, 28 households and 123 residents over an area of 18 hectares. In 1925 Löbelstein counted 119 people and 27 residential buildings. In 1970 169 people lived in the village.

On January 1, 1972, the municipality of Seidmannsdorf with 522 inhabitants and an area of 199 hectares was incorporated into Coburg. Seidmannsdorf and Löbelstein became part of Coburg.
