Laurali Rose Wright , nee Laurali Rose Appleby , also LA Wright, (born June 5, 1939 in Saskatoon , Saskatchewan , † February 25, 2001 in Vancouver , British Columbia ) was a Canadian journalist and crime writer .

Life

Laurali Rose Wright was the daughter of Sidney Appleby and his wife Evelyn Barber Appleby. Wright grew up with her younger brother Brian in Saskatoon and Abbotsford , British Columbia. In 1955 the family moved to Hemer in Germany; Father Sidney took on a position as a teacher at the Canadian Army Base School with the Canadian Armed Forces in Soest . Wright graduated from secondary school in 1956 in Soest.

After the father's death, the family moved back to Canada. In 1961 Wright began studying English literature and drama at the UBC Summer School of Theater in Vancouver, founded by Dorothy Somerset in 1938 . This was followed by a brief engagement at the Holiday Theater , where she met the director of the theater and later husband John Wright; they married on January 6, 1962 and had two daughters, Katey and Johnna.

In the following years the family lived in Calgary , where Wright worked as a reporter for the daily newspapers Calgary Albertan and Calgary Herald . She realized the improvement of her writing work by attending a course at the Banff School of Fine Arts in Alberta . Her mentor there was the writer WO Mitchell.

Wright's first works of fiction were not detective novels, but novels according to the general public taste. In 1979 she won the Search-for-a-New-Alberta-Novelist Competition and published her first novel Neighbors in the same year . In 1985 Wright began to successfully write detective novels, the protagonists were Karl Alberg and later Edwina Henderson, police officer and policewoman with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police .

LR Wright's marriage ended in divorce in 1995. Almost at the same time, Wright developed cancer. On December 25, 2000, she remarried John Wright; a few weeks later, on February 25, 2001, Laurali Rose Wright passed away.
