The LAV Stadtwerke Tübingen has been a merger of the athletics departments of the Post-SV Tübingen , the SV 03 Tübingen, the TSG Tübingen and the TV Derendingen as founding clubs since 1993 . The abbreviation LAV stands for Athletics Association. The LAV Stadtwerke Tübingen is a training and starting community . Over the years, the athletics departments of TSV Lustnau, SV Pfrondorf and TSV Hagelloch joined this starting community.

The development association LAV Tübingen e. V. is a registered association that financially supports the training and competition operations of the LAV and organizes the LAV events. Members are all athletes of the LAV Stadtwerke Tübingen. Only joint membership in one of the 8 main associations + in the LAV Tübingen eV development association enables the LAV Stadtwerke Tübingen to start.

LAV Stadtwerke Tübingen employs around 35 trainers who look after around 500 athletes during around 45 training sessions per week. In addition to qualified trainers, high-quality systems and equipment are available for training and competition. Several training camps are held each year. Depending on the discipline and training group, they take place in different places and at different times. The development association LAV Tübingen e. V. organizes several sports festivals each year, including the opening of the track with a children's athletics competition, a competition with individual athletic disciplines for young people and active people as well as an evening sports festival with changing topics and disciplines (e.g. running & music with sprint and running disciplines, Jump & Sound with jumping disciplines and the soundtrack meeting with international participation). One of the highlights of the Tübingen sports year is also sponsored by the LAV Tübingen e. V. organizes: the Tübingen Erbelauf - on the first Sunday after the start of school in September.

In 2014 and 2015 some well-known athletes had to move to other clubs for financial reasons.
