The LG G5 is a G series smartphone from LG and the successor to the LG G4 . The LG G5 was introduced to the public during MWC 2016 . A special feature of the G5 is a second rear camera that allows wide-angle photos.
Furnishing
The LG G5 H850 (EU variant) measures 149.4 mm × 73.9 mm × 7.7 mm and weighs 159 grams. The 5.3-inch QHD display (screen diagonal 13.46 cm) has a resolution of 2560 × 1440 pixels with a pixel density of around 554 ppi . The battery has a capacity of 2,800 mAh and can be replaced. The System-on-a-Chip is a Snapdragon 820 clocked at 2.1 GHz with four cores from Qualcomm , which is supported by 32 GB of flash memory and 4 GB of RAM . The memory can also be expanded by up to 2 TB with a microSDXC card. It also features NFC , two 16- megapixel - Rear-view cameras with 78 ° and 135 ° pickup angle, optical image stabilization, laser autofocus, photo light and an 8-megapixel front camera. The LG G5 also has an infrared sensor . The G5 is available in Germany in four colors: silver, titanium, gold, pink. When it was launched, LG used Android 6.0 as the operating system . In the meantime there was an update to 6.01. LG G5 is now distributing an upgrade to Android 7.0 in several countries, including Germany since November 24, 2016. The last officially released upgrade to Android 8.0 was released in November 2018.
For the models with only one SIM slot (H830, H850 and RS988) there is still (as of 9/2019) unofficial, but well-maintained LineageOS with the latest security patches . Version 15 (Android 8 Oreo) is stable , version 16 (Android 9 Pie) is still beta .
As a unique selling point compared to the competition, the G5 can have a semi-modular design. Instead of the battery module, for example, a camera module or an audio module can be used, each combined with a battery, with which the corresponding features can be expanded and improved. The G5 not only offers "external" modularity, but is also very easy to repair inside. So are iFixit the G5 a rarely reached repair score of 8, the successor G6 achieved only a value of the sixth
The LG G5 H860N is the international variant. Compared to the H850, it also has dual SIM and supports more frequencies under UMTS and LTE (bands 39 and 41). There is also the H860 variant (without N ). This also has dual SIM, but only supports bands 3 and 41 under LTE.
Availability
The LG G5 was launched on the German market in summer 2016. The RRP for the device was 699 euros.
