The first LIHG championship took place from March 20 to 24, 1912 in Brussels , Belgium . Germany, represented by the Berlin Ice Skating Club , won the tournament with a record of 4 wins from as many games.

Belgium was represented by the Brussels Royal IHSC , France by the Club des Patineurs de Paris . Only Switzerland competed with a national selection. The Oxford Canadians , a team of Canadian students at Oxford University, England , have been designated as representing Canada. In contrast to the European Championship , the teams were also allowed to use foreign players. In the press the tournament was commonly referred to as the World Cup.

The annual LIHG congress took place parallel to the tournament. On this, the cancellation of the European Championship in 1912 was decided.
