The LSOD Leipzig School of Design is a private portfolio and preparatory school for studying art and design. It is located in Leipzig - Plagwitz .
history
In the summer of 2010, the LSOD was founded in Leipzig by industrial designers Thomas Schneider and Steve Hauswald. Schneider is a graduate of Burg Giebichenstein , Hauswald is a graduate of Anhalt University . The training provider is the LSOD Leipzig School of Design GmbH, whose shareholders are Schneider and Hauswald.
In the course of the Bologna reform (introduction of bachelor's and master's degree courses), basic design training in the areas of design and art at German universities was greatly shortened in terms of content and time. The aim of the LSOD is to prepare prospective students with different educational horizons for studying design and art in Germany and the required entrance exams, and to teach artistic and creative working methods. In Germany, art and design can also be studied without having passed the Abitur , after passing the respective entrance exam.
The first domicile was a former factory building on Weißenfelser Strasse in Leipzig- Plagwitz . With the increasing number of students, the move to larger rooms in the old commercial school in Leipzig- Kleinzschocher took place in 2013 . In 2018 the LSOD moved back to the trendy district of Leipzig-Plagwitz.
Pre-study & internship
The 6-month preparatory course comprises two trimesters , which start on the first working day in February, May, August and November and include an internship.
The design department includes the study of nature , scribbling , composition theory , color, typography , plastic design, art and design history , design theory and design projects. The art preparatory course teaches drawing technology, nature studies, perspective , composition theory and art history.
Alternatively, a preparatory course in photo design (Martens, Noack) and fashion (drummers) is offered.

Scholarship & Student Exchange
The LSOD has been awarding two training grants every year since 2013 (2017: 5 grants) to motivated and talented applicants. The award is made by the Association for the Promotion of Gifted Students of the LSOD.
There are cooperation agreements for student exchanges with design academies in Cape Town and Shanghai. In 2016 she is a member of the Association of German Industrial Designers .
Fees & Graduations
The monthly tuition fees are around € 380. At the end of their training, the students receive a certificate with proof of achievement.
