La Capella Reial de Catalunya is an early music vocal ensemble , which mainly includesworks of sacred and secular music of the Renaissance and Baroque, composedon the Iberian Peninsula ,in its repertoire. The group, known as Capella Reial until 1990, was founded in 1987 by Montserrat Figueras and Jordi Savall to explore and preserve the musical roots and cultural traditions of the Iberian Peninsula by performing Hispanic and related European polyphonic vocal music from before 1800.

The Capella Reial de Catalunya is committed to the tradition of the Capelles Reials , the royal choirs at the court of the Crown of Aragon with Catalonia and the Kingdom of Castile . For these choirs, many of the compositions on the Iberian Peninsula were created in the period after James I of Aragon or Alfonso X of Castile, through the reign of Alfonso II of Aragon, the Magnificent , up to the late Renaissance and Baroque periods . For example, the Capella Reial de Catalunya has the medieval Cantigas de Santa Maria of Alfonso X. of Castile in its repertoire as well as the Hispanic music of the 15th century from the time of Isabellas I of Castile . The Capella can also be heard with composers from the Spanish Renaissance as well as the Catalan and Spanish Baroque, such as works by Mateu Flecha the Elder , Cristóbal de Morales and Francisco Guerrero . She also interprets works of other European music, such as Baroque works such as the Marienvespers by Claudio Monteverdi or the Missa Bruxellensis by Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber .

The Capella, under the direction of Jordi Savall, gives numerous concerts worldwide every year and has so far been represented at well-known music festivals such as the Edinburgh Festival and at opera houses such as Madrid, Vienna and Brussels with early music. The ensemble has also published numerous recordings of its repertoire. Among them are several recordings of her interpretation of the song of the Sibyl , a medieval musical work of particular importance for the Castilian language and the Iberian peninsula, which the Capella partially reconstructed together with Montserrat Figuera.

The Capella has received several awards for her recordings with Montserrat Figuera and Jordi Savall, including a prize from the Académie du Disque Français and a prize from the Charles Cros Academy , also from France. Since 1990 the Generalitat de Catalunya , the autonomous self-government of Catalonia, has assumed patronage over the Capella Reial de Catalunya, also in recognition of the contribution of the Capella to the preservation and dissemination of the cultural heritage of the region.
