La Marque is a city in Galveston County in the US state of Texas in the United States .
geography
The city is located in southeast Texas on Interstate 45 , Highway 45 and Farm Roads 519, 1765 and 2004, 12 miles northwest of Galveston and the Gulf of Mexico . The place has a total area of 36.9 km², of which 0.1 km² is water.

According to the census in 2000 , 13,682 people lived here in 5,237 households and 3,713 families. The population density was 371.5 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 55.84% White, 34.69% African American, 0.46% Native American, 0.47% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, and 6.21% other ethnic groups. About 2.31% were mixed race and 15.43% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 5,237 households, 30.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 48.3% of these were married couples living together. 17.2% were single mothers and 29.1% were non-families. 24.7% of all households were single households and there were people living in 10.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.58 and the average family size was 3.06.
25.7% of the population were under 18 years old, 9.0% 18 to 24, 26.2% 25 to 44, 23.5% 45 to 64, and 15.6% who were 65 years of age or older . The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females of all age groups, there were 90.4 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 86.9 men.
The median income for a household in the city is $ 34,841 , and the median income for a family is $ 39,081. Males had a median income of $ 32,099 versus $ 27,292 for females. The per capita income was $ 17,518. 17.5% of the population and 13.5% of families are below the poverty line.
