The Lac de Bret is a 0.36 km² lake and drinking water reservoir in the Swiss canton of Vaud .

It is located at 674 m above sea level. M. in the central plateau north of Lake Geneva , in a valley between the heights of Tour de Gourze in the west and Mont Pèlerin in the east, in the municipal area of Puidoux .
The lake, which extends south-southwest-north-northeast, is around 1.5 km long and up to 400 m wide and has a shore length of 4.1 km; the maximum water depth is 13 m. Its catchment area is only 2 km². The Lac de Bret originally belonged to the catchment area of the Forestay stream, which flows into Lake Geneva near Rivaz . Immediately north of the lake shore is the main European watershed between the catchment areas of the Rhone and Rhine . During longer cold spells, Lac de Bret freezes over completely in winter.

The Lac de Bret was first mentioned in a document in 1529 under the name Bryt . In 1590 the name Brel and 1650 Bruict appeared . The name could be derived from the Old High German word brestan (break, burst).

The natural Lac de Bret was slightly dammed, an earth wall with a dam fortified the southern shore of the lake. It serves as a drinking water reservoir for several places in Lavaux and the city of Lausanne . To the east of the lake is the Golf de Lavaux golf course .
