The 10th European Lacrosse Championships 2012 (EC12) took place from June 21st to 30th in Amstelveen (a suburb of Amsterdam ), the Netherlands . The championship was held under the patronage of the European Lacrosse Federation (ELF) and according to the official lacrosse rules of the Lacrosse World Federation (FIL).

17 teams took part in the men's tournament, initially playing in three groups. From the results of the group games, the quarter-finals, the play-ins (qualification for the quarter-finals) and a group for the lower places were set. The highest places were played in the knockout process. The inferior teams in play-in games played in a group for places 9 to 12. Places 5 to 8 were determined in the knockout mode among the losers of the quarter-finals.

In the women's tournament, 12 teams took part, playing in two groups of 6 teams. The top 4 teams qualified for the quarter-finals, the others determined the bottom places among themselves. All places were determined after the group stage in the knockout process.

The team from England was the European champion for both women and men . The German national team took 4th place for women and 5th place for men. The Swiss team reached 11th place for both men and women. Austria only took part in the ladies' tournament and came in 10th there.

Venues

The European Lacrosse Championship will take place in 2012 in the city forest A'damse Bos of Amstelveen , Netherlands on the premises of the AH&B Club . The entire preliminary round of the European Championship will be played on a total of 14 hockey fields made of artificial turf . The final will be held in the nearby Wagener Stadium .

Men's

mode

For the group stage ( Round Robin ) of the European Lacrosse Championship, the participating teams were divided into three different colored groups (blue, purple and green). The green group has 5 teams, the other two groups 6 teams.

The group placements and the group membership of the team determine which games the respective team has to play afterwards:

  • Blue group: the two best teams go straight to the quarter-finals. The other four teams play a so-called "play-in" game in which they play in knock-out mode for a place in the quarter-finals.
  • Purple group: the first-placed team will advance to the quarter-finals. Second and third placed teams play in play-in for a place in the quarter-finals. The last three teams play for places 13 to 17
  • Green group: the first-placed team will advance to the quarter-finals. Second and third placed teams play in play-in for a place in the quarter-finals. The last two teams play for places 13 to 17.

Places 13 to 17 will then be played in a group tournament. The winners of the play-ins advance to the quarter-finals. The losers of these games hold a group tournament among themselves to determine places 9 to 12.

The final round is played in knockout mode. The winners of the quarter-finals advance to the semi-finals. The losers play against each other in knockout mode for places 5 to 8. The winners of the semi-finals move into the final, the losers play for third place.

The game is played in four quarters of 20 minutes. If there is a tie after 80 minutes of playing time, there is extra time. If necessary, a golden goal will be used , so that there can be no result in any game.

In the group matches, the winner receives one point, the loser none. In the case of teams with the same number of points, the goal difference decides.
