The Rio Lagares is a coastal river in Galicia in northwestern Spain , only about 18 kilometers long ; it rises in the east and ends in the west of the urban area of Vigo in the Ria de Vigo .
Tributaries
The Río Lagares only accepts two small streams. After heavy or long-lasting rains, further rivulets form on the slopes of the Ría de Vigo .
ecology
Due to its shortness, the Río Lagares is a comparatively clean river; its flat and marshy estuary is a small bird paradise, which is also home to various types of fish and crabs. Immediately on the coast is Samil Beach .
Attractions
In the Castrelos district , a single-arched medieval stone bridge crosses the five to eight meter wide river, on whose banks there are also a few wash houses ( lavaderos ). On the last seven kilometers, its course is lined by a hiking trail ( paseo ) that crosses a total of around 40,000 square meters of waterfront ( Senda Azul ).
