Laila Lamoh (born September 29, 1973 in Hamburg ) is a German singer and composer. Her real name is Julia Friederike Lechleitner.

biography

Laila was born to a German mother and a Tunisian father. As a child, she received training in competitive gymnastics and other sports, learned ballet , tap dance and various acrobatic arts such as juggling , unicycling and walking on stilts, and took part in church concerts.

From 1990 she took singing lessons in Hamburg and after graduating from high school began studying acting in Rostock . In 1997 she moved to Lübeck and founded the band Robur . This collaboration resulted in their first album Womao mellen . In the following year she produced the album Mystische Stille with the open band project Mystal and released freely improvised pieces in fantasy language with a meditative atmosphere. Happy Birthday Jesus became her third work, for which she rearranged German Christmas carols for the winter of 1999.

Together with the didgeridoo player Matthias Wilden, she spent some time in Hollywood and street music in Santa Monica and Venice Beach . This experience resulted in the 2003 album Flight , released on the sampler Ibiza Elements , and parallel to it the further album Summer Dream .

She processed impressions from various trips in her double album Dance Into Your Dreams , which was also published as a "Disco Version". This album was the soundtrack of the sand sculpture festival Sand World prior to its release .

In 2012 she took on a small role in the episode Bloody Track of the TV series Stralsund , as well as in the Tatort episode The gentle death broadcast in December 2014 .

Music genre

Lamoh's musical style ranges from folk to lounge music . It is characterized by singing in an imaginary language as well as the use of instruments such as jew's harp , marimba , didgeridoo , panpipe and mbira . Parallels to the music of Loreena McKennitt and Enya can be seen. With her single Mein Held von Deutschland she published her composition in German for the first time.
