Course and landscape
The Laimbach rises in the Oberwald in the municipality of Pennewang in the village of Schneiting. In the upper reaches it passes through the upper and lower forest and in parts forms the municipal boundary between Edt bei Lambach and Pennewang. In the middle course, the stream meanders very strongly before it leaves the forest areas in the municipality of Gunskirchen near the village of Wilhaming. In the lower reaches of the heavily regulated Laimbach flows through open fields, alders and willows form the main component of the wood that accompanies the bank. In Wilhaming and Irnharting the river is still used today for fish farming, indicators of the good water quality are signal crabs and bullheads . In the course of the flood control work on the Grünbach, the Laimbach estuary was relocated north of Irnharting to the Irnhartingerbach. The old arm, which only carries water temporarily, ends at the village of Pfarrhofwies on Grünbachtal Bezirksstrasse. Is
