The first team, the Lakers Stäfa , played after relegation in 2015/16 in the NLBs , the second highest division of the Swiss Handball League . Club history
The HC GS Stäfa was founded in 1962 as a sub-section of the Stäfa sports club at the time. Nine men were responsible for it: Klaus Michalak, Max Zimmermann, Sepp Bachmann, Werner Heller, Kurt Thierstein, Ruedi Grossenbacher, Huldreich Schaflützel, Jörg Hess and Hans Senn. The first game against LC Zurich was won.
Almost 9 years after the foundation, in the 1970/71 season, the first team rose to the second division, where they played for the next 15 years. In the same season, the 2nd team was promoted to the 2nd division, the B and C juniors were promoted to the master class. This was the cornerstone for many years of strong promotion of young talent.
In 1994 the juniors achieved the first Swiss championship title in the club's history in the C master class. The B-Juniors were able to look forward to the regional championship title in the same year.
The first team succeeded in the 1998/99 season the first promotion to the NLA, the highest Swiss league, after they had been promoted to the NLB in 1990/91 and 1995/96. A year she was able to hold in the league, in the 2000/01 season she had to return to the NLB. Although they dominated and won the NLB in the following season, only the 3rd place resulted in the promotion games, whereby they continued to belong to the National League B.
In the 2007/2008 season they were promoted to the highest league, where they played for 8 years with a year in between (2008/09 season). Since the 2015/16 season they have been part of the NLB championship again.
Lakers Stafa
(In the course of professionalization and secure financial position, the GS player AG in 2010 : Short GSPAG ) established that manages the first team and ensures operation. This has been participating in championship operations since the 2010/11 season under the name Lakers Stäfa.
GS Players AG is owned by HC GS Stäfa itself and other people from the club's environment.
