Lamar is a Home Rule Municipality in the US state of Colorado and is the county seat of Prowers County . In 2010 the city had 7804 inhabitants. Lamar has a station on the Amtrak -distance Southwest Chief . The construction of the second part of an international, large-scale physical experiment, the Pierre Auger Observatory in the northern hemisphere to investigate high-energy cosmic rays , is planned near Lamar.
