Meissa ("the glow") is the name of the double star λ Orionis (Lambda Orionis) in the constellation Orion , located between Betelgeuse and Bellatrix . The star has an apparent brightness of a maximum of +3.38 mag and belongs to the spectral class O8III. The distance from Meissa is approximately 1,100 light years . Meissa has a +5.61 mag bright companion of the spectral type B0.5V at an angular distance of 4.4 "at a position angle of 43 degrees, which can be seen in telescopes from an objective aperture of about 6 centimeters.

The star is also under the historical proper name Heka (from Arabic الهقعة, DMG al-haqʿa  'white spot').

The IAU Working Group on Star Names (WGSN) established the proper name Meissa as the standardized proper name for this star on July 20, 2016 .
