The Landesberufsschule Bad Gleichenberg  (LBS BG) is a compulsory vocational school for professions in the hotel , hospitality and tourism sectors in Bad Gleichenberg in the volcanic region of Eastern Styria .

The school is Austria's largest vocational school for tourism . Together with the Bad Gleichenberg Tourism Schools  (TS BG) and the Bad Gleichenberg campus of the Joanneum University of Applied Sciences in Graz , the location offers relevant vocational training from teaching to master's degree .

history

Bad Gleichenberg is one of the oldest spa towns from the time of the monarchy (1843) and has natural mineral springs. The flourishing spa business came to a complete standstill in the course of the Second World War. Therefore, in 1949 the Pichl an der Enns (today TS BG) school for inns, which had been founded by the Chamber of Commerce , was relocated to Gleichenberg.

In 1950/1953 the Bad Gleichenberg State Vocational School  (LBS) was founded here. The Hotel Stadt Milano , built in 1845, was adapted for this purpose.

In 1966, the province of Styria took over Milan from the municipality.

During the thermal boom of the 1980s (establishment of the Vulkanland brand for the whole of Southeast Styria), the innkeeping school was gradually expanded into a comprehensive vocational middle and high school, and in 2001 the Joanneum University of Applied Sciences also began a course on site. Bad Gleichenberg thus became the international competence center for tourism for south-east Austria. In comparison, for example, Tyrol and Salzburg, where the tourism schools are located in the middle of the central winter sports regions, Styria - with the exception of Upper Styria - also had to strive for an independent profile in tourism, and is therefore quite successful. Today the vocational school is the largest in Styria and the largest tourism vocational school in Austria.

organization

The state vocational school is run by the state of Styria . The director is currently (2014) Josef Schellnegger. The boarding school maintainer is the Styrian Chamber of Commerce .

Training and boarding

The vocational school is the compulsory vocational school for all Styrian apprentices in the following professions:

As in most vocational schools, lessons take place in blocks per semester. As a public compulsory school, class attendance is free. The boarding school costs are around € 750 for each 8-week course.

The area of the state vocational school and elementary school Bad Gleichenberg is north of the spa park - there behind the municipal office at the park is the campus of the tourism schools and the technical college .

The heart of this school center is the Hotel Milan (Milanobergstrasse 10/12). This was built in 1845 by the innkeeper Franz Schwarz. The individual houses were closed to form a building complex as early as the turn of the century. This building is a listed building . The specialty of the building is the Mailandsaal , completed in 1895 , one of the most beautiful state rooms in Styria, which is also used for events.

Next to it is the newer boarding school (Milanobergstrasse 16), a more functional building.

This is followed by the girls' boarding house built in 2007 (Milanobergstrasse 8). This building was designed by barkowsky truer architects (Cologne) and is - in addition to the new TS building 2010-2013 - another example of contemporary school architecture in the area. The construction costs of the property amounted to € 6.8 million.
