The Regional Association for Inner Mission Hannover is a non-profit organization within the Evangelical Lutheran Regional Church of Hannover . The Diakonisches Werk or the Stephansstift emerged from the work of the State Association for Inner Mission . The office of the association is located in the Lutherhaus on Ebhardtstrasse in Hanover .

history

The association was founded on May 17, 1865 in Hanover. At the beginning the work was limited to the city of Hanover. In 1867 the Association for Inner Mission in the Province of Hanover was founded. In 1877 the two associations merged to form the State Association for Inner Mission. In 1885 the state association was granted the rights of a legal person .

From 1868 the association brought out the Hanover Sunday newspaper. (today: Evangelical newspaper for Lower Saxony ). The Stephansstift was founded in 1869. The seaman's mission was launched in 1886 . Under Otto Strecker , who acted as the first clergyman from 1891, the association gave the penny sermons haraus (1892) and began working with the disabled, which later became the Annastift in Hanover. In 1910 the epd Lower Saxony was founded.

The association's work also included work with young people (state youth parish office ), with alcoholics (drinkers' institution, Blue Cross ), with women (today: Frauenwerk ) and the like. a.

In the course of time, many of the areas of responsibility became independent institutions, associations and organizations or were later merged into the Office for Community Service (today: House of Church Services of the Regional Church of Hanover).

Since 2002 the association has been organizing cross-regional services in the Christ Church in Hanover. Events have been taking place in the Expowal on the former site of the Expo 2000 since 2004 . In 2008 the regional association took over the Expowal. The association maintains family holiday facilities on Langeoog and has been helping families for decades; since 2011 the association has been the sponsor of the Mirjam network ( Netzwerk Mirjam ), which takes care of pregnant women and young mothers.
