State election in Liechtenstein 1997
The state election in Liechtenstein in 1997 took place on February 2, 1997 and was the regular election of the legislature of the Principality of Liechtenstein. All 25 members of the Landtag of the Principality of Liechtenstein were elected by the people of the country in the two constituencies of the Oberland and Unterland. The reason for this was the expiry of the four-year legislative period of the last parliament elected in 1993.
Starting position
In the state elections in October 1993 , the Fatherland Union received 50.12%, the Progressive Citizens' Party in Liechtenstein 41.34% and the Free List 8.54% of the votes cast.
Election result
Of 14,765 eligible voters, 12,836 people took part in the election (86.9%). The votes and mandates were distributed in the two constituencies - Oberland and Unterland - as follows:
