The Langensalza memorial in Bad Langensalza is a memorial to the soldiers of the Kingdom of Hanover who died in the battle of Langensalza on June 27, 1866 .

History and description of the building

After the battle of the architect was based on a design Georg Hägemann an architectural drawing and of "Hägemann. Meyer ”, which was then reproduced by the JC König & Ebhardt printing company in Hanover as a 50 × 31.7 cm decorative sheet with a color lithograph in two shades of brown. Under the title line Langensalza Memorial to the Fallen Hanoverians is the text:

“Will be erected in the churchyard at Langensalza approx. 36 feet high v. Elzer - sandstone . The names of all the Hanoverians who remained in the fight, including as a result of the same , are arranged according to the regiments , d. Side faces included. "

The sheet shows within a decorative frame a neo-Gothic pointed tower with eyelashes and branches in a landscape. It was used for advertising purposes to collect donations for the construction of the war memorial . So the building could finally be erected for 2500 Thaler and was handed over to the town of Langensalza after the unveiling on June 27, 1868. Former field provost Karl Reinecke gave the inauguration speech .

The jewelry sheet by Hägemann and Meyer became part of the collection of the Vaterländisches Museum in Hanover (today: Hanover Historical Museum ). The 12 m high monument was - in contrast to the drawing on the advertising leaflet - fenced in with a thick iron chain between vertical cannon barrels.
