history
Jean Larrivée began studying classical guitar at the age of 20 and was introduced to the German guitar maker Edgar Mönch in Toronto a little later . Larrivée completed his apprenticeship as a guitar maker with him, bought a workshop and initially dedicated himself to selling guitars. From 1971, he began his first steel-string guitars produce, which is after the Dreadnought - Body shape of Martin Guitars oriented. In the years from 1971 to 1977 Jean Larrivée's company developed continuously, also with the help of Wendy Jones, who designed and carried out engravings and inlays for the guitars to be manufactured; they married in 1972. In 1976, Jean Larrivée had eight employees who made between 25 and 30 instruments per month. Most of these were sold in Canada, but some were also sold in Europe , where they were very popular. In 1977 the company moved to Victoria , British Columbia , where a significant increase in quality could be achieved through the use of new machines. In 1998 the company moved again to its headquarters in Vancouver. Around 60 to 70 guitars are produced every day on an area of 33,000 square meters. In 2001 a second production facility was opened in California , USA . In 2013 the company moved to Oxnard.
particularities
The D-03 model was presented in 1997 and was originally only supposed to be produced in an edition of 1000 pieces. Due to the immense demand that this model achieved, it has since become the company's standard model.
At Larrivée Guitars there is still no assembly line production , which means that the guitars enjoy a very good reputation among guitarists because of their hand-made quality. They are made from solid and fine woods and, along with instruments from other manufacturers, are among the most popular guitars in the higher price segment. As a rule, every Larrivée guitar comes with a certificate of authenticity.
Unlike many competitors, Larrivée never had its guitars manufactured in low-wage countries such as China , Taiwan or South Korea .
Larrivée guitars are played by Morgan Finlay , Peter Autschbach , Georg Danzer , Rainhard Fendrich , Peter Ratzenbeck , John Hiatt , Dave Shul , Ray Scott and Brad Paisley .
