Larry Kohut (* in Chicago , Illinois ) is an American jazz bassist (sometimes also a pianist).

Kohut attended Berklee College of Music in Boston and studied at Northern Illinois University . He has worked with Michael Brecker , James Moody , George Coleman , Randy Brecker , Ramsey Lewis , George Garzone , Kenny Werner , Vinnie Colaiuta , Mel Tormé , Tony Bennett , Lynn Arriale , Patricia Barber , Kurt Elling , Ed Thigpen , Clark Terry , By Freeman , Paul Wertico , Steve Turre , Barry Manilow , Larry Coryell , David "Fathead" Newman, and Hank Crawford . He can be heard as a sideman on more than forty albums.

He also teaches jazz at North Central College in Naperville , Illinois .
