Larry Smith (cameraman)

Larry Smith is a British cameraman .

Life

He gained his first experience in the field of film in the 1970s. a. as lighting technician and gaffer. His many years of personal ties with director Stanley Kubrick as Best Boy (Chief Electrician) at Barry Lyndon and Oberbeleuchter at Shining culminated in 1999 as lighting cameraman for the production of Eyes Wide Shut . He then worked for several television productions. In 2001 the miniseries Love in a Cold Climate , directed by Tom Hooper , was created. Their collaboration was repeated twice. Smith also works as a cameraman for commercials and music clips.

Fear X from 2003 marked the first collaboration with director Nicolas Winding Refn . This cooperation lasted up to and including Only God Forgives (2013).

For his work on The Guard , Smith received the Kodak Award for Best Cinematography at the Dinard British Film Festival in 2011.

Smith is currently directing his first feature film. This is called Trafficker .

His son David Smith also works as a gaffer in the film business and worked in this position a. a. in the productions Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones , X-Men: First Decision and the remake of The Merchant of Venice with Al Pacino from 2004. In this production, Larry Smith also worked as a lighting crew member.
