Lars Thörn, who was a member of the Kungliga Svenska Segelsällskapet , took part in two Olympic Games in the 5.5 meter class . At the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956 he was the skipper of the Rush V , the rest of the crew consisted of Hjalmar Karlsson and Sture Stork . The three Swedes won three of the seven races and were Olympic champions with 5527 points ahead of the American boat led by Robert Perry and the Australian boat led by Jock Sturrock . His second Olympic participation in Tokyo in 1964 , he also skipped the Swedish boat. While the crew again belonged to Sture Stork, this time it was completed by Hjalmar Karlsson's son Arne Karlsson . With the Rush VII , Thörn, Stork and Karlsson had to admit defeat after two first and four fourth places only to Barrenjoey from Australia, controlled by Bill Northam , and thus won the silver medal before the US American bingo by skipper John McNamara . In 1963 Thörn also won silver in the 5.5 meter class at the World Championships in Oyster Bay .
