Kungliga Svenska Segelsällskapet KSSS ( German Royal Swedish Sailing Society ) is the oldest and largest yacht club in Sweden. With its founding date of May 15, 1830, the club is one of the five oldest yacht clubs in the world and is also the oldest yacht club in continental Europe.
The club is active in regatta sailing, sailing training, sailing training, fleet sailing, and match racing and other social activities. The KSSS has its own yacht harbors in Saltsjöbaden (Stockholm) and Sandhamn .
The first regatta organized by Kungliga Svenska Segelsällskapet started on September 12, 1833, and the first regatta with a trophy took place in 1854. Every year the KSSS organizes the Gotland Runt sailing regatta , a race around the island of Gotland with start in Stockholm and finish in Sandhamn and the Sandhamnsregattan ( German Sandhams Regatta ) on the island of Sandön in the Stockholm archipelago .
Kungliga Svenska Segelsällskapet was Challenger of Record in the 34th America's Cup 2013 with the Artemis Racing team led by Torbjörn Törnqvist and Paul Cayard . Artemis Racing also took part four years later with the boat Mighty Blue in the 35th America's Cup 2017 , which was held in the Great Sound of the Bermuda Islands. As the last European team, Artemis lost 2: 5 to Emirates Team New Zealand after excellent sailing races in the final of the challengers (Challenger Playoffs) and was eliminated.
The members of the KSSS have won numerous medals at the Olympic Games. These include:
