The Paucartambo District is located in the Paucartambo Province in the Cusco Region in south-central Peru . The district was established on June 21, 1825. It has an area of ​​1091 km². The 2017 census counted 13,151 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 11,028, in 2007 it was 12,057. The seat of the district and provincial administration is the town of Paucartambo , located at an altitude of 3005  m , with 4329 inhabitants (as of 2017). Paucartambo is 47 km east-northeast of the regional capital, Cusco .

Geographical location

The district of Paucartambo is located in the Andes in the central south of the province of Paucartambo. The Río Paucartambo (Río Yavero) crosses the west of the district in a northerly direction. The northeast of the district lies in the catchment area of the Río Alto Madre de Dios .

The Paucartambo district is bordered to the west by the district Colquepata , in the northwest on the district Challabamba , the north and the east by the district Kosñipata and on the south by the districts Ccarhuayo and Ccatca (both in the province Quispicanchi ).
