Laufenmühle (Welzheim)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Laufenmühle is a district of Welzheim in Baden-Württemberg and is located approx. 2.5 km west of Welzheim in the Wieslauftal . The Laufenmühle has been used as a social facility since the 1950s.

history

Due to its advantageous location along the traffic route through the Wieslauftal and its location by a waterfall, the Laufenmühle has a centuries-old tradition. It was first mentioned in a document in 1564, and descendants of the Laufenmüller family can be found in nearby Welzheim until 1862. In the 19th century, the mill was expanded into an inn, which could be operated successfully until 1916. Then, however, the buildings fell victim to a fire. The milling operation was then given up, only the inn was rebuilt and after a few years a hotel was added. Under Hitler, the buildings were converted into camps for forced laborers who had to work for the regime in Welzheim and the surrounding area. From 1948 to 1949 the boys' home school of the Ev. Relief organization housed. Around 70 boys, mainly from eastern Germany, were cared for. Willibald Heldt was the director. In April 1951, Ms. Rohlsen, Ms. Lippert and Ms. König founded the Laufenmühle youth welfare organization and thus the anthroposophical social work in the Laufenmühle. In 1973, the youth welfare organization merged with the Christopherus-Heim, a disabled facility for children, which had been located in nearby Rudersberg-Lindental, and also took over its name. Today the institution is called Christopherus Lebens- und Arbeitsgemeinschaft eV

A special episode in the founding year 1951 is a literary meeting, some of whose participants are today among the great storytellers of the 20th century: From October 18-20, 1951, the literary association Gruppe 47 , founded in the post-war years, met under the direction of Hans Werner Richter in the Laufenmühle. 33 young authors presented their works and faced the merciless assessment by colleagues and critics. The list of participants reads like a 'who's who' of German post-war literature: Ilse Aichinger , Walter Jens , Alfred Andersch , Rolf Schroers , Hermann Lenz , Wolfdietrich Schnurre , Wolfgang Hildesheimer , Hans Magnus Enzensberger and many others were there. As a young journalist, Martin Walser recorded a few readings from the autumn meeting of Group 47 with an OB van for Süddeutscher Rundfunk .

Today the Christopherus Living and Working Community offers around 85 people with disabilities living and workplaces based on the anthroposophical image of man . Since the late 1970s, the first new residential buildings have been built on a sunny cleared island above the historic Laufenmühle. Several buildings are now grouped around a central square. There are living groups, workshops, therapy rooms as well as event and common rooms. The number of residents per group is between 5 and 10 people.

In the recent past, the near-natural location in the Wieslauftal has proven to be a disadvantage in terms of social inclusion. Because of the remoteness of the facility, there was little interaction with those involved in cultural life. The managing director Dieter Einhäuser, who has been in office since 2002, therefore brought the idea of a field of experience into play, with which the handicapped people should not be integrated into society but, conversely, the population should be invited into the establishment. In July 2007, after a three-year planning and construction phase with the experience field of the senses Eins + Alles, a sensory park with initially around 35 experience stations, a café and the animal oasis was opened, which has since created almost 20 handicapped-accessible workplaces. Residents of the Christopherus facility now work in the service of the molina restaurant , which is connected to the experience field , in the maintenance of the gardens, at the cash register, in the coffee roastery el molinillo , which opened in 2010, and in taking care of visitors during tours and workshops. The basic idea is to reduce fear of contact on both sides in the encounter with guests and to contribute to a changed social perception of people with disabilities.
The field of experience has recorded steadily increasing visitor numbers since its opening and received around 50,000 guests in 2010. At the same time, the offerings have been expanded further and include a wide range of workshops and a total of more than 100 indoor and outdoor stations. In addition to families with children, Eins + Alles is also used by kindergartens, school classes and for team training and celebrations.

Laufenmühle station

The Laufenmühle train station is approx. 500 meters northwest of the Laufenmühle. The historic station building is now used as a restaurant and is located on the scenic and delightful mountain railway line of the Wieslauftalbahn , which has been a listed building since 1992. The re-commissioning as a museum railway took place in May 2010. Directly after the Laufenmühle station, the railway line branches off into a side valley of the Wieslauf , whose deep gorge it overcomes on the 25 m high and 168 m long Laufenmühle viaduct. The station building is being recreated as a model kit by the Vollmer company .

tourism

At the Laufenmühle there is a larger parking lot for hikers, the starting point of a 10 km long geological nature trail. Many popular destinations such as the Edenbachtal, the Kesselgrotte , the Bannwald Wieslaufschlucht, the Geldmacherklinge , the Ebnisee or the Welzheim observatory can be reached from here. The experience field of the senses one + everything operated by the Christopherusheim is an anthroposophically oriented adventure area with sensory stations and installations.
