Laurens ten Dam (born November 13, 1980 in Zuidwolde , Netherlands ) is a former Dutch cyclist .
Career
Laurens ten Dam began his career in 2002 with Rabobank TT3 , the farm team of the Rabobank professional team. In 2005 he finished fourth in the Tour of Belgium and third in the Ster Elektrotoer . In 2006 and 2007 he drove for the Belgian team Unibet.com , which received a license as a ProTeam in 2007 . In his first year there, he was only fifth in the Four Days of Dunkirk and won the time trial of the Course de la Solidarité Olympique . In 2008 he switched to the Rabobank team and won a stage of the Critérium International in 2008 and the mountain classification of the Tour de Romandie in 2009 . On his Grand Tour debut , he finished 21st in the 2008 Tour de France . He was unable to fully confirm this result in the next few years. However, he achieved his breakthrough as the overall eighth of the Vuelta a España 2012 . In the subsequent Tour de France 2012 he was 13th and 2014 ninth. At the Giro d'Italia 2017 , ten Dam was one of the helpers for overall winner Tom Dumoulin .
Ten Dam's colleague Thomas Dekker , who admitted to having used doping during his career , stated in his autobiography Among Professionals that Ten Dam was one of the few people where he was sure he would not drug.
After the end of the 2019 season, ten Dam ended his active career.
