Lusatian Railway
The Lausitzer Eisenbahn-Aktien-Gesellschaft (LEAG) was founded on March 21, 1896 with its seat in Sommerfeld (now Lubsko in Poland) in Lower Lusatia as a subsidiary of the Munich Local Railway Corporation . This always remained the majority shareholder and built three standard gauge lines, which, however, did not form a coherent network.
- It began on October 1, 1895 with the opening of the 23-kilometer line from Hansdorf - on the Sorau – Kohlfurt line - to Priebus . The owner was the Lokalbahn Aktien-Gesellschaft in Munich, which it sold to LEAG on April 1, 1901. This opened on October 1, 1913, along the Lusatian Neisse, an extension of seven kilometers to Lichtenberg, which was discontinued in 1936. In Priebus there was also a connection to the Horka – Rothenburg – Priebus small railway from December 15, 1907 .
- A little further south of Hansdorf, since December 1, 1896, the eight kilometer long Rauscha – Freiwaldau branch line branched off the state railway line Sorau – Kohlfurt.
While the routes mentioned were mainly in the province of Lower Silesia , a connection was added in the following two years with the Weißwasser – Sommerfeld railway, which mainly belonged to the province of Brandenburg .
- The Sommerfeld – Muskau section led from the Sommerfeld junction via Teuplitz to Muskau . The Cottbus – Sorau route was crossed in Teuplitz, where the main LEAG workshops were located . Operations began on October 1, 1897 on the northern section and on June 15, 1898 on the southern section; a total of 43 kilometers. At the same time, the LEAG also took over the operation of the eight kilometer long state railway line Muskau – Weißwasser , which had already been opened on October 15, 1872 by the Berlin-Görlitz Railway Company .
The LEAG has operated 80 kilometers of routes since 1898, and 87 kilometers since 1913. The planned sections Freiwaldau – Priebus and Lichtenberg – Tschöpeln-Quolsdorf, through which a coherent LEAG network would have been created, were not implemented because of the First World War.
With the nationalization of the Munich Local Railway Company on August 1, 1938, 87% of the LEAG shares were transferred to the German Reich. From January 1, 1939, the Lausitzer Eisenbahn-AG was incorporated into the Deutsche Reichsbahn .
