Lauwersoog is a village in the municipality of Het Hogeland in the Dutch province of Groningen . It was created after the Lauwerszee was dyed in 1969.

To the west of the village is the border between the provinces of Friesland and Groningen.

Lauwersoog is best known for its ferry connection to Schiermonnikoog . Lauwersoog is also an important port ( Vissershaven ) and it is the home port for part of Urk's fishing fleet . Many Danish fishermen also regularly dock in the port of Lauwersoog.

A lock ( Robbengatsluis ) in Lauwersoog leads from the Lauwersmeer to the Wadden Sea .

The village belonged to the municipality De Marne until January 1, 2019 when it was dissolved .
