Le Subéreux

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Le Subéreux or Seibel 6905 is a red wine variety bred at the beginning of the 20th century by the French breeder Albert Seibel . It is a cross between Seibel 4596 and Seibel 4151 and belongs to the large family of Seibel vines . It is an extremely complex breed in which genes from the wild grapes Vitis rupestris , Vitis aestivalis , Vitis cinerea and Vitis vinifera are present. In 1960 the area under vines in France was 1,645 hectares .

Le Subéreux sprouts late, with good fungal resistance against powdery mildew as well as against gray mold rot . On the other hand, it is susceptible to anthracnose . Depending on the expansion, a deep red simple wine is created , which is counted among the best red wines made from hybrids. The wine is mostly used as a blend with other grape varieties.

Since it is a hybrid vine , cultivation was banned in the EU in the 1950s and may only be cultivated in experimental cultivation. JF Ravat used the variety to breed the Vignoles grape variety and Le Subéreux served as a breeding partner for the Villard Blanc and Villard Noir varieties at the Seyve-Villard breeding farm .
