Leandra Overmann , actually Jelica Overmann (* between 1950 and 1958 in Belgrade , Yugoslavia ; † April 20, 2012 ) was a Yugoslav - Serbian opera, lied, concert and oratorio singer ( mezzo-soprano / alto ).

Life

She received her first singing lessons from her mother, Đurđevka Čakarević , the former prima donna of the Belgrade Opera. She also received piano lessons. Study stays in Detmold and Cologne as well as at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome followed. She made her debut as Rosina in The Barber of Seville at the Belgrade Opera.

From 1977 to 1982 she was a member of the ensemble at the Landestheater Detmold . There she sang a repertoire from soprano to alto. Engagements followed, first as a dramatic soprano, at the stages in Basel (1985–1997), Bonn (1997–2000) and Hanover (2001–2006). Leandra Overmann has been a member of the Stuttgart State Opera ensemble since 2006 , where she a. a. the sexton in Jenufa , the Clytemnestra in Elektra and the witch in Hansel and Gretel sang.

In addition to her engagements, the artist gave guest performances. She sang on the opera stages of Venice, Trieste, Barcelona, ​​Hamburg, Madrid, Milan, Mannheim, Dresden, Munich, Kiel, Basel and Freiburg / Breisgau. Her repertoire included the Wagner roles of Erda, Fricka and Waltraute ( Der Ring des Nibelungen ), Santuzza ( Cavalleria rusticana ), Ulrika ( Un Ballo in Mascera ), Marina ( Boris Godunow ), Amneris ( Aida ), and Eboli ( Don Carlos ) and Margret ( Wozzeck ). She also sang works by Verdi , Dvořák , Mahler and Puccini .

After working for the Freiburg Theater and the Stuttgart State Theater to the end, she died on April 20, 2012. Leandra Overmann was the mother of three daughters. Since 2002, the artist, succeeding Ingeborg Hallstein , has held a half-C4 professorship for singing at the University of Music in Würzburg .
