Leandro Bassano (actually Leandro dal Ponte ) (born June 26, 1557 in Bassano del Grappa , † April 15, 1622 in Venice ) was an Italian painter and one of the four sons of the painting family of Jacopo Bassano .

He worked in his family's Venetian workshop under his older brother, Francesco Bassano the Younger , who headed the Venetian branch of the family. Francesco committed suicide a few months after his father died. Leandro then took over the management of the workshop and emerged in Venice mainly as a portrait painter, comparing his portraits with those of Jacopo Tintoretto . Around 1595 he was ennobled by the Doge (afterwards he sometimes added "Eques" to his signature). His works are rich in color and often contain harsh lighting effects. In the spirit of his father, he continued the earlier style of pronounced picture counting and turned out to be poetic portrayals of rural idylls.
