The Ledertal is a suburb in the west of Weitra , an Austrian municipality in the Gmünd district in Lower Austria .
The Ledertal, which is roughly the section between the confluence of the Grünbach and the confluence of the Tiefenbach, is shaped as a continuation of the Gabrielental by the Lainsitz , on the banks of which many manufacturing and processing businesses settled here in the Middle Ages and early modern times of leather . These were tanners, shoemakers, hat makers, glove makers and sole cutters, all of whom were dependent on water, be it through the purifying effect of the water or through its power transmitted via water wheels. Out of a total of 68 houses, 35 are said to have been craft houses.
