Ledi Bianku

Ledi Bianku (born February 22, 1971 in Shkodra ) is an Albanian legal scholar and judge at the European Court of Human Rights .

Life

Bianku studied law at the University of Tirana from 1989 to 1993 and during this time also spent a year abroad at the University of Trento . After graduating, he worked as a lawyer in Tirana from 1994 to 2006. This activity was only interrupted by a brief interlude at the OSCE in Albania in 1998 and 1999.

From 1995 to 2007 he taught European and international law at the University of Tirana, and from 1997 also at the Albanian School of Magistrates. From 1996 to 1997 he did a Masters in European Law at the College of Europe in Brussels .

In 1999, Bianku was one of the founders of the European Center in Tirana, which he was Executive Director until 2006. Between 2000 and 2007 he acted as personal advisor to the Albanian President, the President of Parliament and the Ministers for Justice and European Integration.

From 2006 to 2007 he was a member of the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe and was also Chairman of the National Broadcasting Authority of Albania. From February 2008 to 2019 he was a judge at the European Court of Human Rights.
