St. Wendelin Chapel

The Roman Catholic chapel is located in Wineden , a district of Markt Rettenbach in the Unterallgäu district in Bavaria and is a listed building. A chapel already existed in ancient times. The new building from 1794 was redesigned from 1883 to 1890. The altar , the church tower and the addition to the sacristy date from this period . The chapel consists of a small hall with two window axes with arched windows and a recessed, semicircular closed chancel with a flat ceiling over a hollow.

Furnishing

The chapel's neo-Romanesque altar consists of a marbled wooden structure. The altarpiece , originally depicting Saint Wendelin as a shepherd, was repainted in 1960 by Erwin Holzbaur , Mindelheim , after a fire . It now shows Saint Wendelin, dressed as a monk with a shepherd's shovel, above a view of the village. The altar is flanked by the set figures of Our Lady and Joseph of Nazareth .

The left and right wall of the hall each carry a picture from around 1800 with Saints Franz Xavier and Antonius of Padua . There are several wooden figures in the chapel. The figure of Saint Sebastian dates from the middle of the 18th century . The St. Catherine and St. Barbara are the workshop of Lederer Joerg in 1530 attributed. The figure of a Pope, Saint New Year's Eve or Saint Gregory , and a crucifix date from the 18th century. The book in the hand of the saint is an ingredient from 2013.

The ceiling painting in the chapel room , the protective mantle Madonna in an ornamental frame, and the putti gloriole around the spirit dove in the chancel are signed and dated by J. Baumann (Munich) in 1955. The oak pegs of the stalls, handcrafted with volutes , leaves and pomegranates, date from the first half of the 18th century, presumably from the previous building.
