Leena Krohn
Leena Elisabeth Krohn (born February 28, 1947 in Helsinki , Finland ) is a Finnish writer .
Life
Leena Krohn comes from a cultural family. She is the daughter of the journalist and art critic Alf Krohn . Her younger sister Inari Krohn has illustrated several of her books as an artist and graphic designer. Her cousins are the writer Aarni Krohn and the medical professor Kai Krohn , and her cousins are the actress Heidi Krohn and the writer Tiina Krohn . In addition, her son is the journalist Elias Krohn .
After graduating from high school in 1967, Krohn completed her studies in philosophy, psychology, literature and art history at the University of Helsinki in 1976 . During this time she was already working as a journalist and made her debut as a writer in 1970 with the illustrated children's book Vihreä vallankumous dealing with environmental issues . The following year she was awarded the Arvid Lydecke Prize for the book. After several other published works, she gave up her job as a journalist in 1981 and has lived as a freelance writer ever since. Since then she has published essays, short stories and a few novels, mainly children's and youth literature. Her works have been awarded the Finlandia Prize , the Aleksis Kivi Prize , the Thank You for the Book Medal and the Anni Swan Medal and are available in several languages, including English, Swedish, Estonian, Hungarian, Russian, Japanese, Latvian, French, Italian, Polish and translated into Norwegian. In German so far appeared to her in 1976 published novel Ihmisen vaatteissa 2013 as Emil and the Pelican Man and her 2006 published novel Datura as Datura , each for a translation of Elina Kritzokat .
Some of her books have also been made into films. In 2004, after a production by Liisa Helminen and with Kari Ketonen in the lead role, the family film Pelikaanimies was released as an adaptation of her novel Emil and the Pelican Man . For the science fiction thriller Apeiron , directed by Maria Ruotsala in 2013 and starring Sampo Sarkola and Irina Björklund , the 1990 novel Umbra served as a template.
