Vincenz Maria Joseph von Kolowrat-Liebsteinsky (born May 11, 1750 in Czernikowitz , † December 7, 1824 in Vienna ) was an Austrian Feldzeugmeister during the coalition wars and Grand Prior of the Order of St. John .

Life

Vincenz Maria Graf von Kolowrat was born as a member of the Kolowrat house in 1750 in the Bohemian district of Königgrätz . He was the son of Count Franz Joseph von Kolowrat-Liebsteinsky and Countess Maria Karolina von Waldstein. He was accepted into the Order of Malta at the age of five and sworn in as a real knight on January 6, 1756. In March 1776, he took his prescribed vow and thus lived celibacy .

Military career

On February 6, 1768, he joined the Imperial Austrian Infantry Regiment No. 19 and was promoted to captain on March 27, 1769 . After participating in the War of the Bavarian Succession in Infantry Regiment No. 7, he was promoted to major on June 2, 1782 . When the war against the Turks broke out , he was promoted to lieutenant colonel in the 2nd Banal Regiment on April 1, 1788 . During the attack on Novi Sad on October 3, 1788, he was wounded in the left arm. On June 6, 1789, he was appointed Colonel and Commander of Infantry Regiment No. 59 for this act of arms . In the battle of Calafat on June 26th, 1790 he stood out in particular, so that on December 19th, 1790 he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of Maria Theresa .

In the coalition wars

At the beginning of the First Coalition War , he served from the spring of 1793 in the main army under Field Marshal Prince Josias of Saxe-Coburg in the Austrian Netherlands. On October 22, 1793, his troops distinguished themselves at the Cysoing meeting. Since January 1, 1794 to major general (rank of December 22, 1793), he commanded a brigade of the division of the FML Baillet de Latour in the Battle of Fleurus in 1794 . In the campaign of 1796 he continued to distinguish himself under Archduke Karl. Commanding general in Hungary and Prague

In 1805 he was appointed commanding general in Transylvania and promoted to Feldzeugmeister on September 16, 1808.
